Voluntourism

Experience living with a South African family

If you want a cultural experience of living with a typical South African family in Pretoria, while doing a short-term volunteer outreach, look no further. We offer privacy in the apartment together with family visits and meals. Outings to attractions like the Apartheids Museum, Voortrekker Museum, Safari Drives and Outdoor Food Markets are popular.

Volunteer’s reviews

Volunteering in South Africa has been one of the most remarkable experiences of my life. I visited South Africa during my student exchanges and fell in love with the country and its people. After my graduation I volunteered with two of my friends in 2020. We lodged at Berry Bush Guest Cottage in Pretoria (previously Aanthuizen). The hosts were very kind, helpful and reliable. The guest cottage was cosy, and it had everything for a pleasant and safe stay. Me and my friends volunteered in charitable organizations called LIV Lanseria and Jacob’s Well. We worked at a clinic in LIV Lanseria with a local nurse. We worked at a day care centre for disabled children in Jacob’s Well. We also visited a women’s shelter and talked about first aid. We made a presentation of Finland for a group of Grade 8 scholars. We were received with joy and kindness wherever we went. During the weekends we enjoyed the local culture, nature and warm weather. I especially enjoyed the food and arts market. Once you volunteer in South Africa, you will find yourself wanting to go back again and again. -Neeamari, 25, Finland.

Outreach

We have four years’ experience in helping young people to make a difference. Many students use their outreach experiences to develop multi-professional projects and a thesis for their Bachelors’ Degree.

We work with various NGO’s and schools who welcome daily or weekly volunteers in any subject of their expertise:

  • Pre-primary school
  • Primary and High School
  • Children with special needs (mentally disabled)
  • Women and children sheltered from abuse and traficking

Please feel welcome to engage with Dr Henriette Botha on your needs and expectations, and we can work out an innovative educational program for you.
